Ginger, dcb -- Thanks, I did some digging on the Web, and it turns out that osteoarthritis in elderly cats can cause tremors -- it isn't true Parkinson's, it just looks like it.
D'Art has lost a little weight, but is still eating and using his litter box, and he sleeps alot. The tremors are not constant, and the fleeting problem with the back legs seems to be triggered by a change in the weather.
dcb, are you actually getting to work with real live snow leopards?! They are my partner's favorite big cat.
AKICIML: Can cats develop Parkinsons? I have an elderly kitty (17 years old) that has presented with a slight head tremor, and occasional weakness in his hind legs over the last few days.
His appetite is normal, there has been no change in his activity level or litter box usage, and the symptoms are not constant.
C. Wingate: Any person who thinks beating a small dog (Dachshund??!) is the way to train it should be considered certifiable.
Dobson is a monster in my eyes, and I would not trust him with any of my animals, much less a small child.
A dog that snarls at you (if it is YOUR dog) should be rolled onto its back and held there until it submits -- NO beating, NO screaming, just calm assertive restraint. If the dog is NOT YOURS -- leave it alone, it isn't your place to discipline it, and attempting to do so will result in the dog biting you, and you will have earned that response.
Dobson is a snake oil salesman, pure and simple, and I see little difference between him and James Arthur Ray -- if anything Dobson may be worse by cloaking his crimes in the cape of Christianity.
And I am willing to bet that somewhere out there in Dobson land some stupid parent has beaten their child to death, and you will find a copy of Dobson's book in their possession.
EClaire @194: For meditation practice and ritual, I can highly recommend attending a Tibetan Buddhist temple. Taking classes at KTC here in Central Ohio is what snapped me out of a bout of depression in 2002.
I found it also enriched my Pagan rituals, and Tara and Chenreizig don't seem to mind sharing my room with Dana, Isis and Brighid...
68 people?! The sweat lodge I participated in had a half dozen attendees. And $10K to attend -- unbelieveable.
The most I've ever paid to attend a Pagan/Wiccan event (PSG) was $120 -- for a week at a private campground. The money went for campground and portapotty fees.
That one had 2 dozen people on its emergency staff -- EMTS, MDs, and RNs, plus a psych contingent. The difference between Newage and Pagans -- we damned well take care of our fellow attendees!

Ok, Bruce, I undestand what you've told me -- but it raises another question:
How the heck is the economy going to recover if money doesn't reach the consumer? Won't things eventually grind to a halt for everyone (including the rich) if we can't afford to buy anything?
Bruce Baugh @270: I have been wondering why the Obama Administration is not trying to revive some of the things from the New Deal -- like the CCC and WPA. Wouldn't it be better to put people to work, rather than just extending the time they can claim unemployment benefits?
I'm to the point that I'm beginning to think the government should take the foreclosed properties away from the banks and put people back in them. At least we'd have something from the bankers for the money we pumped in to save their businesses.

Re: The use of the apostrophe and "its"
I was taught: "It's" = it is and "Its'" = belonging to "It"
So "it's" indicates a state of being, and "its'" indicates possession.
Update on the injured police dog:
Bosco is much better -- the paralysis in his front legs is decreasing as his neck is healing.
He gets physical therapy 3 times a day (outdoors), and even wanted to chase a squirrel, to the delight of his therapists.
He is well enough to go home on weekends, and will work in public relations when cleared to return to the Zanesville Police Department.

Somewhere I read that hate and love are the opposite sides of a coin, and that they mean "this person matters to me." Therefore the opposite is that the person no longer means anything to you.
Only when you do not care what happens to this person will you be free of the emotions you now connect with them.
It is often a long journey from "love/hate" to "no longer care."
Tom @409 -- Sorry for the heat of my reply, it's not your fault I'm touchy and you do have a valid point. My tormentors may have had their own host of insecurities and inner demons, at this remove I've no way of knowing.
I hope they got help or grew up, whatever they needed.
