Tor.com appears to be slashdotted at the moment.

What a poseur. He's a graceless as a Chinese iPhone knockoff.

Wow, that engine is as enhanced as a Bush-era interrogation!

Some level of tragedy is inevitable when fame becomes more addictive than making art.
Posted on entry Web advertising fail ::: February 01, 2009, 11:38 AM:
I've had an ad-blocker for at least two years now. I don't mind ads, people have to make a living, but I =hate= movement on the screen while I'm trying to read.

I only filter out ad servers that send me Flash or gif animations. Added bonus? Opening a bunch of tabs in Firefox no longer slows my system to a crawl. All those little Flash processor hits can add up.

So, St. Margaret of Antioch ===> the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch? Darned clever, those Python boys.

The liveblogging made me wonder whatever happened to John Bloom and his admiration of enormous talents.

This, apparently. And this. I still miss these, though.

He was a safe choice ---experience, gravitas, male. I'm sure the corporatist wing of the Democratic party is ecstatic.

For me, Biden still has to do a lot to atone for his support of the awful 2005 bankruptcy bill.

Exactly.

I saw the thread title and immediately thought,"Vote the Tor ticket in 2012."

No doubt fund raising will start soon. Maybe a tip jar at the party?

Re: maggots

The fly larvae that inhabit open wounds don't all dine exclusively on dead tissue. Some of them like fresh meat, too. You'll get debridement regardless, but the patient may not be happy about it (ow!).

Posted on entry Hey, McCain and Obama! ::: July 11, 2008, 10:58 AM:
I just gave $100 to the ACLU and faxed the receipt to Obama's office. The cover letter explained that the ACLU got the money rather than his campaign due entirely to his recent FISA vote and the ACLU's lawsuit in opposition to the FISA update.

Teresa really needs to see this article re: yarn work and math.

Fun bleg!

Abstract round things: Palantir, Galadriel's basin, caldera of Orodruin

Illustration pairings: 9 walkers vs. 9 riders, tower vs. tower, Eye vs. winged crown

What --E@ #2 said, Trees: Moria gate, Treebeard, the White Tree. Tolkien loved trees; this idea is my favorite.

Lee @ #17: Gates would render really well in leather.

Folsom Street meets Sesame Street. Wow. There are people I must share this with.

I'm another member of the minority of wakkos that likes natto, especially in makizushi. A usual fringe benefit of ordering it is a chat with the chef.

Frango @4

I second the recommendation for Stephen Fry's book. It's informative and a fun read. I can't vouch for its content, though --- I'm neither an English major nor a poet.

Marty @11

Mouseovers? There are mouseovers?!?

Aargh. So much for my free time next week.
