Minnesota Supreme Court just said Franken wins. Unanimous decision. Pawlenty to certify.

I suspect that this is not the first time that he's gotten away for a while, it's just the first time his wife decided she wasn't going to cover for him. She could have allayed all suspicion if she chose, she didn't.

I've read that the family money is mostly hers, so she must have decided that enough was enough.

It's annoying that this thing hit just as hayfever season is starting. Occam's Razor and that yellow haze on my car say that my sneezing and watery eyes are being caused by trees having sex, but every time I do sneeze I have that momentary panic moment.

To me the worst personality aspect that's come to light is her fondness for abuse of power. Firing the guy who refused to fire the ex-brother-in-law, firing the police chief who voted against her in the mayoral election, firing the librarian who wouldn't ban books...

Governor Umbridge.

Donna Brazile got pepper sprayed, too.

What is this country turning into?

Posted on entry Palin and McCain ::: August 30, 2008, 03:38 AM:
There are three things that the vice president does as part of his/her job.

Attend funerals for foreign dignitaries, preside over and cast tiebreakers in the Senate, and step in if the president dies.

Sarah Palin got her first passport in 2007, so she really doesn't have much international experience.

The Anchorage Daily News interviewed a number of her political allies and rivals about her qualifications for the VP slot. House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was also astonished at the news. He didn't want to get into the issue of her qualifications. "She's old enough," Harris said. "She's a U.S. citizen." Gee, sounds like she's got lots of experience working with the legislature.

And it takes a Fox News anchor level of mendacity to claim that, out of all the Republicans in the country she is the most qualified to step up in case McCain's years catch up to him. He's 72, and spent 5 1/2 of those years as a POW (I don't know if you've heard - his campaign doesn't talk about it much)(more than ten times a minute)

Palin was chosen to win the news cycle. Biden was chosen to serve as vice president.

Wooten had also tased his 11-year-old son during the course of the divorce. He's no saint.

Thing is, if Palin had ordered her subordinates to go after every policeman in Alaska with domestic violence convictions on their record, and gotten them all disciplined or fired (I have no idea if there are others, but even in a small state like Alaska there probably all), she would have been lauded, brilliant, a feminist hero. But she only went after the one who had affected her personally. That's abuse of power.

Her children are named Track, Bristol, Willow , Piper, and Trig.

Really. Trig's full name is Trig Paxson Van Palin.

Posted on entry Biden ::: August 24, 2008, 07:57 AM:
The true function of the vice president, the reason we have the office defined in the Constitution, is as insurance. He's there to step in if the unthinkable occurs. A lot of people who I've talked to fear that Obama is more likely to be a target of assassins, simply because of who he is.

One of Bush's few smart decisions was going along with Cheney's command to pick him as VP. Nobody in their right mind would assassinate Bush to get President Cheney in name as well as fact. Joe Biden is no Dick Cheney (thank the gods). But he does have an F rating from the NRA, and a solid gun control record. Remember the youtube debate, where the guy pulled out a big frickin gun and asked the candidates "This is my baby. How will you protect my baby?" Biden heaped ridicule on the guy's head.

Biden has been in the Senate for 36 years, but still is the poorest guy in the building. There are a lot of ways he could have cashed in during that time - give a few speeches, set his wife up in a lobbying job. He didn't take them. He may be an old Washington hand, but I don't think he's been corrupted by it.

Biden makes a decent Tommy Lee Jones to Obama's Wil Smith.

Fox is a multimillionaire, so paying him off with money was a nonstarter.

Part of appointing Fox as Ambassador to Belgium is probably payback for Bill Clinton daring to appoint Hormel as ambassador to Belgium during a recess in order to thumb his nose at Trent Lott's homophobia.

Posted on entry Tom DeLay indicted ::: September 28, 2005, 04:14 PM:
Ronnie Earle is NOT a partisan Democrat. He's prosecuted just as many high-profile Dems as Repugs, including the Speaker of the Texas House.

And the indictments were returned by a Texas grand jury, who you can bet had at least a few Reps on the panel.

Don't fall for the spin.

If all Christians thought that way I'd be among you still. I have no problem with any of that. So long as 'look for the resurrection' isn't phrased 'look for and work towards the resurrection', like those goony apocalyptarians seem to be thinking.

They scared the bejeezus out of me.
Posted on entry U.S. Secretary of Education calls NEA a "terrorist organization" ::: February 24, 2004, 10:06 AM:
Rod Paige jokes (culled from Atrios and DailyKos comment threads)

Get rid of those Weapons of Math Instruction!

Well, actually they only have Weapons of Math Deconstruction Classroom-related Activities.

They’re all secret liberals. Why else would they call it ‘Al-gorithms’, hm? And ‘Al-gebra?’ It’s just a secret code for al-Qaeda! And they had the nerve to call them Arabic numerals – when everyone knows that America invented numbers. One look at our deficit will prove that!

Paige is implicated in a scandal in Houston, alleging that he falsified test results in order to make the school district look better so that Shrub could claim he’d improved education in Texas. So there weren’t really any Weapons of Math Instruction in Texas – they must have been shipped over the border into Oklahoma and Kansas, where they’ve managed to stop teaching evolution.

You know what this means. Anyone attending a PTA Bake Sale or other fund-raiser is providing material assistance to a federally designated terrorist organization! And crayons count. To Guantanemo with you!

I’ve heard that some schools even teach… French!

And my favorite:

If the NEA was truly a terrorist organization, the administration would be unable to find it.
