    Notes:

"No record of his burial or probate has been found. It is often stated in online pedigrees that George married Deborah Gardner, but no evidence has been found in support of this claim. In about 1600 George Slye of Lapworth leased lands in Rowington from John and Jane Cox of Rowington. However, in 1604 George brought a suit against John Cox and Richard Lea, a former tenant, for entering the land and cutting down and selling twenty oak trees and the "lops" of many other ancient trees on the land by some prior agreement or "indirect practice" unknown to George. George appeared as a tenant on a court roll of the Manor of Rowington dated 5 May 1614." [Clifford L. Stott, citation details below]

George Slye is a direct ancestor of AP and TSW, and the paternal grandfather of the second wife of PNH's ancestor Edward Cole (1657-1717).

  1. 2.  Thomas Slye was born about 1530 in of Bushwood and Lapworth, Warwickshire, England (son of Miles Slye).

    Notes:

Thomas Slye, a yeoman of Bushwood and Lapworth, was born about 1530 (age about 54 in 1584). Although associated with Lapworth, the hamlet of Bushwood was technically within the bounds of a detached portion of Stratford on Avon, largely surrounded by Lapworth. No burial or probate records have been found for Thomas unless he was the Thomas Sly of Packwood buried in Lapworth on 8 May 1624, making him about 94 years old. The name of his wife is unknown. Thomas was one of only four Lapworth men assessed in the lay subsidy of 1568, paying two shillings eight pence on land valued at 40 shillings annual value. On 15 February 1570/1, Thomas Slye of Lapworth, yeoman, was one of the feoffees of John Asshebye, the elder, husbandman, of Lapworth for a tenement and other lands in Packwood. [...] Thomas brought a suit against John and Nicholas Wheler in 1579 for colluding with the steward of Kingswood Manor to deny him admission to his lands. In 1584 Thomas Slye, yeoman of Bushwood, aged 54 'or neare thereabowtes,' deposed before magistrate Job Throckmorton, investigating William Skynner and others accused of "popish plots" against the queen. Thomas's testimony included evidence that Skynner had entertained priests in his home and the damning accusation that he heard 'Mr Skynner wthin this yere or ij (as he remebrethe) defende the Queene of Scots tytle and saye that she is next heyre apparante to the Crowne of Englande.' On 27 March 1587 Thomas Slye of Lapworth and his son John were among the ten co-feoffees of the Lapworth parish lands set aside for the use of the poor, who leased a close or pasture called 'Thackams or Thatchames' to Nicholas Slye, turner, also of Lapworth." 1. 4.  Miles Slye was born in of Lapworth, Warwickshire, England; died after 1533.

    Notes:

Possibly a son of Nicholas Slye of Lapworth, yeoman, born around 1445, who was living in Lapworth on 13 Oct 1498 when he witnessed a grant of land in Nuthurst, a hamlet in the parish of Hampton-in-Arden, to Robert Fulwood. Nicholas's wife was probably named Ellen.

"Miles Slye of Lapworth described himself in court pleadings as the eldest legitimate son of Nicholas Slye when he sued widow Alice Slye, widow of Oliver Slye, and others in the Court of Requests in 1533–38 for denying him his inheritance in Kingswood Manor. As such, he would have been born almost certainly before 1480 (based on his alleged younger brother Roger being married by 1503). As Miles's claims were disputed, he may have been considerably younger, especially when considering the age of his known son Thomas. Alice Slye testified that Miles was not the son of Nicholas Slye but the bastard son of John Eamond and not entitled to the Slye lands. In a further attempt to recover his claimed inheritance, Miles sued Francis Cokayne, lord of Kingswood, in the Chancery Court in 1527–47, but seemingly to no effect, as his son Thomas renewed the claim in 1579. Miles was certainly living as late as 1534 when he witnessed the will of Martin Docwra of London, and possibly much longer. The name of his wife is unknown." [Clifford L. Stott, citation details below]
