  1. 8.  Thomas Wetmore was born in 1615; died on 11 Dec 1681 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

    Notes:

Said to have emigrated to Hartford from the west of England in 1635. He was an early settler of Wethersfield, Connecticut, where he is recorded as owning land in 1640. He was later among the first six settlers in Middletown in 1652, and was several times a deputy from that place to the Connecticut general court.

His surname was variously spelled Wetmore, Whetmore, Whitmore, Whittmore, Whightmore, Whiytmore, and Wetmer. It has been supposed on the basis of various associations that he was a son of the John Whitmore of Wethersfield and later Stamford, who was killed by a native American in 1648, but this is unproved.

Thomas married Sarah Hall on 11 Dec 1645 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. Sarah (daughter of John Hall) died on 7 Dec 1664 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He was, according to Donald Lines Jacobus (citation details below), a "nephew of Andrew Bacon, an original proprietor of Hartford, who married Elizabeth, widow of Timothy Stanley, and in 1660 moved to Hadley, Mass., where he died without issue, 4 Oct. 1669."
