    He was an attorney, one of the conservators of the peace for Warwickshire 1451-61, and one of the commissioners of array for that county in 1459-60. He was a Lancastrian. MP for Warwick 1429, 1432, and 1433.

    "In 1468, while assisting at Mass in the church of the White Friars in London, he was called out to the porch of the church and stabbed to death by John Herthill in a dispute over a mortgage; when offered payment earlier by Herthill, Brome had kept the land. In 1471 Nicholas Brome avenged his father by killing Herthill, for which crime he was ordered to find a priest to say mass daily for two years in the church of Baddesley Clinton for the souls of both victims, and to pay to the widow Elizabeth Herthill 33s 4d."     Also known as Ralph Basset. Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, 1420-22. Knight of the shire for Leicestershire. He served as a young man in the French campaigns of Henry V. He was present at the siege of Harfleur, but was prevented by illness from taking command of his retinue at Agincourt.

    She and her brother John de Brewes were long held to be offspring of Peter de Brewes by his wife Joan de Percy, but a growing consensus appears to be that Peter de Brewes and Joan de Percy were divorced in 1352 (after which she married Alan Cheney), that Peter de Brewes then married as his second wife Joan Howard daughter of John Howard and Alice de Bois, and that John and Beatrice were children of Peter de Brewes's second marriage.
