  1. 1.  Dr. William Whiting was born on 8 Apr 1730 (son of Col. William Whiting and Anna Raymond); died on 8 Dec 1792 in Great Barrington, Berkshire, Massachusetts.

    Notes:

    He studied medicine under the direction of Dr. John Bulkeley of Colchester. He was evidently also a talented and largely self-taught musician, and over time constructed musicial instruments for his family, including a parlor organ and a dulcimer. The Puritan authorities of Hartford rebuked him more than once for these indulgences, which was probably one of the reasons he and his family eventually removed to Great Barrington and joined the Episcopal church there.

    William married Anna Mason in 1759. Anna (daughter of Jeremiah Mason and Mary Clark) was born on 4 Mar 1738; died on 13 Nov 1821. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    His was a colonel in the provincial army, and distinguished himself at the siege of Louisbourg and at the battle of Lake George.

    Not to be confused with John Whiting (d. 1690), son of Samuel Whiting of Lynn.
