    • Originally called William de Port. "Assumed the name of St. John by 1205. On the separation of England and Normandy in 1204 he adhered to King John and his lands in Normandy were confiscated. Accompanied King John in his disastrous expedition in Poitou and Anjou, 1214; Sheriff of Hampshire, 1214-1215; bailiff of the Channel Islands 1227-1232. Fought in France 1230."
