  • Notes 
    • He probably emigrated about 1638 with a group of Yorkshire Puritans led by Ezekiel Rogers, minister of Rowley, Yorkshire. He first appears in Wethersfield records in 1641.

      The two generations of ancestry given for him here were pieced together from fragmentary records by Paul C. Reed (citation details below) with the caveat that there is "no absolute proof" of his parentage. What Reed did prove was that he was absolutely not, as Belden family tradition long claimed, a son of Sir Francis Baildon of Kippax in the West Riding.
