Notes - He was the grandson of an Anglo-Saxon thegn, a woman. Ethel Stokes in Complete Peerage IX: 396: "Lambert de Multon, earliest recorded ancestor, descended on a least one side from English thegns. In 1142 or 1143 he held 2 carucates of land in Revesby by William (de Roumare), Earl of Lincoln, by the service of 1/4 knight's fee, as grandson (and heir) of Brictive, and an oxgang of land under Robert, his wife's father." Footnote (b) on the same page notes that the Latin form of Brictive would be Brictiva, or in Anglo-Saxon, Beorhtgifu, and continues "A woman of this name was joint tenant of lands in Hackthorn, &c., before the Conquest, and a Brictiva, holding as a thegn, possessed at the time of Domesday a carucate of land in Corby in demesne, with her own team of [8] oxen. [...] The name still survived in the county in the 13th century."
