• Notes

  Like another ancestor of JTS, Louis Du Bois (b. 1626), he was from France, presumably a Huguenot; he fled first to Mannheim, in Germany, where he married Marie Blanshan; and he emigrated with his wife and father-in-law to the New World in 1660, settling at what is now Kingston, New York. It is hard to avoid supposing that Crispell and Du Bois were acquainted, so close are their dates, places, and circumstances.
