Notes - He was a linen draper. His status as gentry is made quite clear in the records of proceedings that were brought against him in 1632 for "not compounding for knighthood on the occasion of the King's coronation." Earlier, he was accused by the Privy Council, in a letter to the Marquis of Winchester dated 24 June 1597, of trying to evade military service by becoming a retainer of Viscount Bindon. Whether there was any merit to this accusation is unknown.
