• Notes

  A supporter of the Empress Matilda against Stephen. Complete Peerage IX:120, in a footnote about his brother Robert, says "Robert was probably the son of Thurstan de Mundford, who, as one of the barons of Henry, Earl of Warwick, attested the Earl's charter to Abingdon in the days of Abbot Reynold, who d. 1097 (Chron. Abingdon, Rolls Ser., vol. ii, p. 21). This Thurstan was very possibly of the house of Montfort of Montfort-sur-Risle, but the connection has not been proved."
