Notes - He may have been the Roger Deering baptized in 1619 at St. Saviour, Dartmouth, Devon, son of Thomas Deering and Elizabeth Passe. Notwithstanding Old Kittery and Her Families (citation details below), he was probably not a son of George Deering who died about 1645 in Scarborough, Maine.
Roger Deering was a shipbuilder and a mariner. He appears to have made a living building ships in Maine and sailing them back to sell in England. The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire (citation details below) says that on 1 July 1673, in Kittery, he was in court for "not going home to his wife", which seems odd given that his wife only came to New England after his death in 1676.
