  "William came to New England in 1640 with his son Samuel and his brother Philip. He was elected a member of the Royal Artillery of Boston in 1641 and was soon appointed lieutenant of the company. He was a deputy to the General Court from 1642 to 1650. William also held the positions of Clerk of the House of Deputies and Recorder of Deeds. He was appointed captain of milita about 1655."
