Notes - He was a carpenter. After the death of his second wife he took sail, with his son John, on the Castle to New England, but he died on board. He left a will committing his son to the care of Thomas Wiburne.
He was not a grandson of the Protestant martyr William Flower (d. 1555), as fancifully alleged by none other than James Branch Cabell in his 1907 family history Branchiana. Nor was William Flower a grandfather of early Virginia immigrant Christopher Branch, ancestor of Cabell and also of Thomas Jefferson. To the best of our knowledge, no evidence exists to connect these two Branch families.
