  "Sir Richard Tempest, had an illustrious career involving battles with the Scots and French and extensive administrative responsibilities in the north of England under five kings of England, from Edward III to Henry VI. […H]e was co-warden of Berwick Castle with Sir Thomas Talbot, presumably his mother's brother, in 1385-86." [Schuerman and Hickling (citation details below)] Knight of the shire for Yorkshire in Jan 1404. His birth year is established by the fact that he gave his age as 30 when testifying in the celebrated Scrope vs. Grosvenor heraldic dispute, Oct 1386.
