Notes - Kay Allen cautions, in a 1999 post to SGM, that "[t]he Knightley line behind William de Knightley is totally unknown. He is said to be of the line of Fawsley, Northamptonshire. Fawsley was not acquired until 1416 and William had been dead since before 1403. If he had lived as late as 1459, he would have held Apley by the courtesy of England, which is the widower's equivalent of dower when the wife was an heiress, which he did not. He could be either of the Knightley line or of the Gnosall line."
