  • Notes
    • "He came to Dutchess Co. where he was taxed in Crum Elbow Precinct in Nine Partners from Feb. 1740/41 through Feb. 1753 and then Capt's widow was taxed until June 1756. He was listed as Capt. Lester for several of those years. [...] Mordicai Lester was appointed Inventorer of intestate estates in Crum Elbow 7 April 1741 and 1742 and as Capt. Lester he was appointed to same in 1743-9 and later. In 1745 he was an Overseer of the Highways and again an Inventorer. Mordecai Lester was involved in several legal issues in DC: He was a participant in an action against his servant Simon Woester in 1743. Woester had assaulted a son of Moses Haight and Lester posted a bond for him. The minutes of the Court of General Sessions in DC, held 19 Oct. 1750, contain a notation that Mordecai Lester was dec'd." [Frank J. Doherty, citation details below]
