Notes - Of Richard Goard's daughter Sarah, Robert Charles Anderson (citation details below) gives her baptismal date, then says "no further record." But there is further record of her — she married John Merrifield in or before 1665 (based on the Feb 1665/6 date of the birth of their first child, John) and then died sometime between 9 Dec 1678 (when her husband died) and 16 Jan 1678/9, the date of his probate. Credit to the unidentified author of Sarah Goard's WeRelate page for figuring this out:
The probate of Sarah's husband John Merrifield, dated 16 Jan 1678/9, awards administration to "John Goad of Roxbury (Brother to the Widdow of sd. Merrifeild now also dece'd" [emphasis ours]. Subsequent to this, Sarah's brother John Goard of Roxbury died on 18 Feb 1679 ("of the pox," Anderson notes), so Peter Killey of Roxbury wound up being appointed administrator instead. But this definitely identifies the wife of John Merrifield as the Sarah who was a daughter of Richard Goard. And it corrects Clarence Almon Torrey's error in New England Marriages Prior to 1700 in making her a daughter of Joseph Goard.
