  • Notes
    • He is recorded as having been paid £2 6s 8d from the payroll of Capt. John Swan's Virginia militia company, as of 10 Jul 1780, from which it is said that he was a soldier in the Revolution.

"Born in Frederick County, Virginia, the fourth son and seventh child of Thomas Chenoweth and Mary Prickett, Richard served in the Revolutionary War. Before 1786, in his late twenties, Richard married Martha Smith, parents unknown. This may have been in Allegany County, Maryland where his first children were born. Like several of his brothers, Richard then moved to Mason County, Kentucky and then again to Pike County Ohio, just prior to the turn of the century. Richard and Martha lived in this Ohio area for about 35 years, having three more children, for a total of 11, and raising them to adulthood. In the 1830, Richard, his wife and two sons and their families relocated to the Twelve Mile Prarrie, east of Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. It was here that they both most likely died, as they are both buried there in the Salem cemetery." [Chenoweth Family site, citation details below]
