Notes - He was a farmer, and a distiller of brandy which he hauled to Baltimore to sell there. According to a memoir by a descendant quoted by Roy H. Wampler (citation details below), he was "rather worldly" but was converted late in life to the United Brethren by the preaching of Christian Newcomer.
Writing in 1987, Wampler (citation details below) reported that as of then, the log cabin that John and Susan Hoover built near Wolfsville was still standing, owned by Gx3-granddaughter Gladys Adella Hoover and her husband Harry S. Blickenstaff, Jr.
