Notes - The 1870 census has him 13 years younger than claimed by the newspaper obituary below. It would hardly be the first time that the age at death of a prominent individual was exaggerated. And an 1829 birth matches well with the 1831 birth of his wife.
From "San Jose's Oldest Resident is Called," San Jose Evening News, 25 Jun 1910:
Jose Dolores Narvaez, one of the founders of the Pueblo of San Jose, has taken his departure from life's duties at the ripe old age of 94.
Mr. Narvaez was at one time a very wealthy man, having made his fortune in trading with the Indians of early California. He was born in an old adobe at Sycamore grove near San Jose.
In Narvaez' day there was no bank and he buried his gold. Later when he wished to get it, his workmen could not find it owing to the failing sight of the owner who could not point out the exact spot of burial. While digging operations were going on, thieves came and found the cache and took the precious hoard with them.
Mr. Narvaez is survived by the following family members: Mrs. B. Ortega, Mrs. D. Berryessa, Mrs. R. Chaboya, Mrs. L. Cantua.
