Notes - He had grants of land at Gloucester in 1649. He should not be confused with the William Sargent of Gloucester who married Mary Duncan in 1678 and who is the earliest known direct patrilineal ancestor of JTS, although it would seem likely that they were in some way related. Winthrop Sargent (citation details below) notes that many descendants of the William Sargent of this entry moved to Maine, and that Sargentville in Hancock County there is named after their branch. Sargent's Mountain, near Mount Desert in the same county, is named for Stephen Sargent (b. 1753), a grandson of this William Sargent.
A third nearby William Sargent was the one who died in 1674 or 1675 in Amesbury, about 25 miles from Gloucester, an ancestor of LDN.
