• Notes

  "Lawrence Bathurst was reportedly a citizen of Canterbury, Kent, in the reign of Henry VI, according to Miscellanea Genealogica et Heraldica [5th ser., 2 (London, 1916-17): 226-29], but his name is not found in the lists of freemen of that city. The same account states that he had land in Canterbury, Cranbrook, and Staplehurst, but he did not leave a will that would confirm this. 'Lawrence Bartherst A vertuouse olde man of the age of four skore and twelve yeres' was buried at Staplehurst on 22 April 1549." [Leslie Mahler, citation details below]
