    • "He served as a Lieutenant in the Revolution. He is said to have been a lawyer, and his name appears several times as surety/recorder of parental consent on Bedford County marriage bonds. [...He and his wife] had no children. William left a will, executed and probated in 1810, and some of his property and his library went to his nephew Mitchell, Caleb's son, whom he had raised. His will also leaves twenty shillings each to his brothers Charles, George, and David, as well as his sisters Mary and Martha. Finally, his will charges Mitchell Ewing to pay $200 each to Caleb's daughters Polly and Betsy, all in Kentucky; this money apparently represents legacies from their father."
