• Notes

  Said, without evident documentation, to have been born about 1757 in the duchy of Slesvig, a son of Hans Gier and Amalia Christina Koch. He was a surgeon; he opened a practice in Slagelse in 1784, four months before his marriage to Birgitte Leyerhoff. The 1801 census of Denmark describes him and his wife as "separated." He lives at Slottesgade in Slagelse Købstad with three servants; she lives at Slottesgade with the seven children.
