Notes - "Sir John de Oggill was leagued with the rebel barons against Henry III, and so was probably at the siege of Northampton and the battles of Lewes and Evesham, and, according to an escheat of 49 Henry III., his lands were 'extended' (?). He, however, soon recovered his estates, which, whilst his father was alive, could not have been great, ancl moreover he and Gilbert de Oggill were, 51 Henry III, jurors upon an inquest taken at Stannington, respecting lands forfeited in this county by the celebrated Simon de Montfort, earl of Leicester, the leader in the revolt, and he was then a knight, as also in the same king's reign, when he, Sir John Widdrington, and Sir Hugh Gubium witnessed a charter at Ellington, and he also appears as a witness in 1272 concerning Whittonstal."
