Notes - "Freichfras" means "long arm", not "strong arm" as widely stated. Darrell Wolcott, in "Ynyr Gwent and Caradog Freich Fras" (citation details below), in disambiguating this man from the Caradog Freich Fras of the fifth and sixth centuries, says that the earlier Caradog "suffered some kind of injury which resulted in one arm being larger than the other."
This Caradog's parentage is unknown, although Wolcott speculates that he could have been a son of Hywel ap Caradog ap Meirion (~780-~825) a king of Rhos who fought Cynan Dindaethwy for Mon (Anglesey) in around 813-816, and ruled there for about three years.
