• Notes

  His 1761 marriage record calls him "master surgeon in this town" (Aix); the 1766 baptismal record of his son Jean Nicolas calls him a surgeon; and the 1847 obituary notice for Jean Nicolas calls him a professor at the royal college of surgery at Aix. His social status, and presumably that of his wife, was high enough that the record of their marriage states that (in Helen Fourcade Kendrick's translation) "[t]he testimoners were Messires [Lords] Jacques DeLaurens [Knight] chevalier of the Orders of St. Lazard and Saint Louis, Lieutenant, Marshal of France, [high ranking] [Marshal/Sergant] person of Provence, Chief Inspector of the police kingdom/departments of [France], Mr. Louis Benoit Estienne, bourgeois, Mr. Francois Pellissier, bourgeois and Mr. Joseph Michel with the parties."
