Notes - He arrived on the James at Charlestown in 1632, where he settled and became ruling elder of the church.
His grave in Charlestown was quoted in 1845 by William Budington, on page 50 of his History of the First Church, Charlestown, as reading "Here lieth the body of Mr. John Greene, born at London in Old England, who married Perseverance, the daughter of [illegible] Johnson, in Amsterdam". Budington felt that he could discern a final "s" at the end of the illegible passage, and opined from this that Perseverance's father had been the Rev. Francis Johnson, pastor of the English Puritan church in Amsterdam, who died there on 10 Jan 1618.
