Reed, and Nathaniel Lane Taylor showed that while John Hawley could not have been a son of his father's first wife, Margaret Brewes, it cannot yet be determined whether he was a son of his father's other known wife, Dulcie Massey, or of a possible wife in between Margaret and Dulcie.
