Notes - Hodgson's History of Northumberland calls him "Robert."
"He was probably one of the barons who rebelled against Henry III and marched against him, for he seems to have become pecuniarily embarrassed and quit-claimed to the monks of St. Alary's, Newminster, the rent they were accustomed to pay for the Forum, they having given him five marks in his great necessity, and his mother quitclaimed to them her dower due from the same place." [Ogle and Bothal, citation details below.]
"His namesake, Roger Betram of Bothal, being now dead (shortly before 27 July 1262--Fine Roll, 26 Hen. III, m. 6), the addition [to his surname] 'de Mitford' was no longer necessary." [Complete Peerage II:160, note (i) to the entry on Sir Roger Bertram of Mitford.]
