  Born in Philadelphia, he became a prominent merchant and successful manufacturer in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In 1824 he established a factory at Fall River for the printing of calicoes. "Both Anna and her husband Andrew were disowned from the New Bedford Monthly Meeting for 'absenting' themselves from meetings. Andrew was disowned 27th 10 mo. 1825.
