  • Notes
    • Count of Ligny and Roussy.

"Walram was killed on 5 June 1288 at the Battle of Woeringen. Called 'Waleran de Ligny' by the troubadour Jacques Bretel, Walram is one of the main characters in Bretel's Le Tournoi de Chauvency. Dedicated to Heinrich IV, Graf von Salm, it describes the festivities at the tourney given by Louis V, comte de Chiny, in 1285 in the small village of Chauvency-le-Château near Montmedy, where more than 500 knights took part. One of the masterpieces of French literature of the Middle Ages, the poem, of some 4,500 verses in French and the dialect of Lorraine, provides a picture of the life of the aristocracy at the end of the 13th century."
