    Notes
    • The handwritten records of Sherborn, Massachusetts record that George B. Hooker and Hannah Kimball were granted a license to marry on 23 Jan 1831. This record follows directly after records dated 3 Jan 1831, 30 Dec 1830, 13 Nov 1830, etc.

Elsewhere in the handwritten town records, their actual marriage is recorded as having taken place on 3 Feb 1830. This record is similarly surrounded by other records dated in the neighborhood of Feb 1830, but unlike the first record, these are not in strict chronological order. For this reason alone we would be inclined to guess that George and Hannah received their license to marry on 23 Jan 1831 and actually wed on 3 Feb 1831. But what confirms that, we believe, is that the ancestry.com database U.S., Newspaper Extractions from the Northeast, 1704-1930 (built from newspaper and periodical indexes compiled by the American Antiquarian Society) shows that the wedding of George B. Hooker and Hannah Kimball in Sherborn was reported by the Boston newspaper The Columbian Centinel in their issue dated 26 Feb 1831.
