"He matriculated aged 14 at Trinity College, Oxford in 1594, and received a B.A. degree in 1597. He resigned his preferments in February 1624/5, having become a Roman Catholic. But as he had received large grants of land in Ireland, he was created Lord Baltimore of Baltimore, co. Longford, Ireland 16 Feb. 1624/5. He obtained a grant of Maryland from King Charles I."
