  • Notes
    • Many genealogists, including Walter Goodwin Davis, have noted that the first four children of Arthur Howland, including Mary, have to have been by a wife prior to Margaret. Janet Wolfe has brought to our attention that this first wife is likely to have been "Grace wife of Arthur Howland Lether dresser", buried in "the new church yard" of St. Giles, Cripplegate, London, on 4 Dec 1635.

After the death of her husband, Mary continued to operate his business, as seen in a license granted her on 30 Oct 1678 "to draw and sell beer, wine, and liquors."
