  • Notes 
    • He is first recorded in New England as one of the later signers of the 1639 New Haven Fundamental Agreement, which he signed by mark. He is first granted land in the New Haven colony in 1641, and took the oath of fidelity in 1644. He was evidently well off enough to have a "man" who took his place in the New Haven train band.

      There is no evidence for the claim that he was earlier at Boston, a supporter of Anne Marbury Hutchinson and one of those disarmed as a result.
