Happy birthday, and since I got this email recently and it seems relevant I'll pass it on

"Salutations on this glorious day, from Mr. Pumblethrait Thoop (late son of the Emperor of Thoop)
As you no doubt are aware thereof, our tiny island nation of Thoop is the primare resource of triple tier birthday cakes, now due to evolution of the government I sit in possession of the 10,000 cakes of various flavors and munificense. Without recourse to sales because of import restriction.
I am making to you on this auspicious occasion a devious proposition, okay? Now, I am making it: You being in possession of birthday request transfer of birthday cakes posthaste and share out slices 50/50. This is best deal ever!

Signed,
Pumblethrait Thoop."

I don't no though, it seems suspicious.

A little birthday dirge

It's your Birthday! Happy Birthday!
May the candles on your cake
Burn like cities in your wake.
On your Birthday! Happy Birthday!

It's your Birthday! Happy Birthday!
Burn the castle and storm the keep
Kill the women, but save the sheep
For your Birthday! Happy Birthday!

It's your Birthday! Happy Birthday!
While you eat your birthday stew
We will loot the town for you,
On your Birthday! Happy Birthday!

About this "trouble" business...

Before age fifty, you have to work to stay out of trouble.

After age fifty, you have to work to get into trouble.

(Despite my best efforts, I seem to be doomed to a future of staid respectability. Dammit.)

Teresa, my favorite boss and occasional partner in crime, you will never be so old that you cannot be the epicenter of fireworks and creation. It's in your DNA. I've been looking for a coffee cup like the one my mother used to own, that says "If you're looking for trouble, I can offer you a wide variety."

Happy Birthday, young'un. Wish I was there to say so in person.

#107 ::: nerdycellist ::: (view all by) ::: March 21, 2006, 11:53 AM:

I think that turning 50 automatically means that "Teresa" is to "Trouble" as "W" is to "Illegal"; As Teresa is a respectable 50-year-old, you must be confused and mistaken about the nature of the "trouble" or "mischief" she has caused and/or participated in. Going out in her barefeet to light fireworks or other assorted incendiary devices (for example) has been elevated by Teresa's participation in it. Who says this is "trouble"? Why do you hate America?

Happy Birthday, Teresa!

well since we're singing, Danish birthday song:

I dag er Teresa's fødselsdag!
Hurra! Hurra! Hurra!
Hun sikkert sig en gave får
som hun har ønsket sig i år
og dejlig chokolade med kage til.

Hvor smiler hun, hvor er hun glad
Hurra! Hurra! Hurra!
Men denne dag er også rar,
for hjemme venter mor og far
med dejlig chokolade med kage til.

Og når hun hjem fra skolen går,
Hurra! Hurra! Hurra!
Så skal hun hjem og holde fest,
og hvem der kommer med som gæst,
får dejlig chokolade med kage til.

Til slut vi råber højt i kor.
Hurra! Hurra! Hurra!
Gid Teresa længe leve må
og sine ønsker opfyldt få -
og dejlig chokolade med kage til.

Felicitations on another Solar Return. When the Sun reaches the same point in the Zodiac where it was when the person was born, this is called their SunReturn, or, more colloquially, 'birthday'. For some it is a trying, even traumatic time. For others it is a joyous transition into a new phase of life. May the latter be your case! And may the Sun transit your natal Sun many, many more times!

Well, gracious to anybody who doesn't absolutely deserve to have their ass kicked, I mean.

Oh, she's gracious to them too. More gracious than they deserve! We have yet to see Teresa be ungracious...and I shudder to think.

It’s not everybody who gets to share a natal day -- as well as many personality traits, obviously -- with Johann S. Bach, Charlotte Bronte, Modest Mussorgsky, Florenz Ziegfeld, Harold Robbins, Son House, Gary Oldman, and Rosie O’Donnell.

And while we’re believing everything the net tells us, let’s not forget that on your day in history, the Hatfield-McCoy feud ended with a kiss, C. M. Kornbluth died, Alcatraz freed its last jailbirds, C.S. Lewis found Joy, Dr. King marched from Selma, the Supremes declared “Fanny Hill” unobscene, JR got shot, and TIME magazine recalled all copies of that publication’s only known cover typo: “contol” for “control.”

Cold War bunker found in Brooklyn Bridge

NEW YORK (CNN) -- New York workers have discovered a trove of Cold War-era supplies within the masonry of the Brooklyn Bridge, a cache meant to aid in survival efforts in the event of nuclear attack.

City Department of Transportation employees were conducting maintenance on the structure Wednesday when they found the cache on the top floor of a three-floor space inside the bridge's base, agency spokeswoman Kay Salin said.

It looks like they found this last week, actually - today is still Tuesday, yes?

March on! March on! And lift up a glass,
Ye geeks who know your gentry:
The queen of skiffy editrices
Has reached her first half-cent'ry.

Come set the teetering slushpiles alight
And toss the smoking pages!
And pray the judgment weighing their end
Will long be TNH's.

Fear not the wingnut's idiot rants,
Nor trolls' incessant howling -
For these, and all deficient in grace,
A swift sure disemvowelling.

Let all deceivers cower in fear,
Their hearts filled with foreboding,
As shout we waes thu Teresa hael
To the sound of things exploding.

March on! (And if these verses offend,
As dull and thick as cordwood,
Forgive; they were set hastily down
For fear that first Mike Ford would.)

Today we mark a demi-century
Nativity, on just the cusp of spring,
It’s time to rhyme on she who’s known as t,
Editor, hostess, friend -- that sort of thing
Light in the making, light on which to dine,
Slogging through slush for diamonds in the smoke
Exploring how the mind-yarns intertwine,
Never too proud to topple at a joke;
Holding on to the stuff that does endure,
And living on the faith that hope increases,
Yearning for better nations to mature
Dissenting in the way of editrices.
Enough already. She’s not finished yet;
No change in our affection. Mark it stet.
