I’m about to try upgrading nielsenhayden.com to Movable Type 3.121. Don’t be surprised if weird things happen. (—Patrick)

UPDATE, 2:37 PM: So far so good, but not finished. Hold off trying to comment for now, please. (Avram, we’re sending your pants back via FTP.)

UPDATE, 3:20 PM: Commenting seems to work now.

Comments on Here goes:
#1 ::: Avram ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 11:18 AM:

My pants just fell off!

#3 ::: Greg Ioannou ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 11:49 AM:

OK, who took my arm this time?

#4 ::: pericat ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 11:59 AM:

Two pairs of pants just appeared on my coffee table. Also part of a comment thread. Seems to be about grammar and Egyptian vases, though one of the comments contains an extraordinary number of obscure equations.

No arms, though.

#5 ::: Jo Walton ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 02:58 PM:

How can you fit pants into those little raviolis?

#6 ::: mayakda ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 03:27 PM:

There was a flash of light and sudden sense of vertigo. Checked the news -- damn, he's still prez. I was hoping you'd upgraded us into the sane universe, but looks like we're still stuck in bizzaro world.

#7 ::: xeger ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 04:09 PM:

Hmmm. I've got a stack of arms here, but no comments. Anybody want to trade an arm for a comment?

#8 ::: Stephan Zielinski ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 04:23 PM:

Hey! Dolphins are no smarter than dogs, interstellar travel is effectively impossible, there's no cure for cancer, there are no flying cars, people are starving all over the planet, broadcast power doesn't work, and everyone around me says they've never heard of Tesla and it's always been this way!

Change it back! Change it back! You madman, Helen Epsilon Radium and I were going to go in and register for a second offspring today-- and now I can't even find her!

Damn it! WHERE'S THE $#%!?ING SOMA?!

#9 ::: Mark ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 04:54 PM:

So does that mean that the arms are being held as hostages for comments?

#10 ::: Larry Brennan ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 04:55 PM:

There will be no arms for hostages!

#11 ::: Mark ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 04:57 PM:

Armless hostages?!

#12 ::: xeger ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 05:36 PM:

Wouldn't armless hostages be the embodiment of despair?

#13 ::: Keith ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 06:35 PM:

I think armed hostages would be far more desperate, myself.

#14 ::: Tom Whitmore ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 06:58 PM:

Is there any way you could recover the comment that I tried to post that provided a free source of usable energy with no environmental side-effects? It's similar to the Gaudeamus Effect, I think.

#15 ::: Greg Ioannou ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 07:10 PM:

Hey -- I pressed F11 twice and my arm came back!

#16 ::: James D. Macdonald ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 07:19 PM:

So, what does Movable Type 3.121 do for you that, say, Fixed Font 2.971 doesn't do?

#17 ::: Patrick Nielsen Hayden ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 07:35 PM:

Best feature: a hugely improved MT-Blacklist, thoroughly integrated into the main interface. Would have saved a ton of time dealing with the spam attacks of the last couple of weeks.

#18 ::: Christopher Davis ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 10:39 PM:

I was just preparing to type a comment when an armless statue appeared.

Look! It's the Winged Victory of Samothrace! And it's wearing Avram's pants!

#19 ::: xeger ::: (view all by) ::: November 06, 2004, 11:09 PM:

How can you tell that they're Avram's pants? Are there ants?

#20 ::: Christopher Davis ::: (view all by) ::: November 07, 2004, 12:03 AM:

Well, they could be Yog's; I didn't look for anyone's name sewn in to the waistband. And how that elephant got into my pajamas I'll never know.

#21 ::: Stefan Jones ::: (view all by) ::: November 07, 2004, 12:47 AM:

What are these 'pants' of which you speak?

And who has removed the key from my keyboard? How am I going to spell Ghi po or Rhiul kee without the key?

#22 ::: xeger ::: (view all by) ::: November 07, 2004, 01:04 AM:

The elephant does look positively fetching in that neglige, but the fuzzy cthulhu slippers quite break the mood.

#23 ::: Teresa Nielsen Hayden ::: (view all by) ::: November 07, 2004, 06:07 AM:

Hola! An Indian-head nickel!

If those pants have four or five cargo pockets per side, full of CPR masks, disposable nitrile gloves, emergency airways, and large folding knives, they aren't Avram's.

Oooh! Those would have been more fun than a pile of arms! Go, go gadget pants!

#25 ::: Mark ::: (view all by) ::: November 07, 2004, 12:06 PM:
