For once I’m going to post about one of these events earlier than 24 hours before we take the stage. As I speak, copies of Whisperado’s first CD are in transit from the plant, and this coming Wednesday we’ll be throwing a CD release party downstairs at the Cornelia Street Cafe in conjunction with fearless leader Jon Sobel’s monthly “Soul of the Blues” event.
Opening at 8:30 will be singer-songwriter Melissa Mulligan, followed by Bostonite Adam Payne (warning: link plays sound). We’ll take the stage around 10 PM, and we hope to see you there.
The Cornelia Street Cafe is at 29 Cornelia Street, between Bleecker and West 4th in the heart of the West Village. Cover charge will be $10, which (assuming we get our advance box from the plant in time) will include a copy of our six-song CD Some Other Place, soon to be available on CD Baby, the iTunes Music Store, and directly from this weblog, among other fine retail channels. Watch this space. Okay, you can stop watching this space.
UPDATE: Two Whisperado tracks can be downloaded, restriction-free, via Alison Scott’s fine Page Full of Free Music She Likes.
"Bostonite" ?? What's that? I've known lots of Bostonians (and actually am one myself by birth, never lived there, but I was born there), but what's a Bostonite? It is something like Vegemite or Marmite or termite?
No, no, it's like Kryptonite. You have your green Bostonite and your red Bostonite, and of course yellow Bostonite shuts off power to the Green Line.
Ooh, yes, where can I get one? (Eg, if it's through CD Baby then please put it on mp3-friendly eMusic as well as DRM-laden iTunes).
You might, it occurs to me, be interested in my Potted Music Guide, with lots of links to entirely downloadable complete mp3 sample tracks by bands that I like.
Yes, that was a hint.
Congrats on the CD - very nice cover art. You know, you could post the link to where those of us who live very far away could actually, like, hear you and the band. The very talented band, that plays good songs well.
Have a great show and a great release party! (And I'll try to pretend that Making Light hasn't gone all commercial.)
Commercial schemmercial. If you can't use your weblog to point people to your own projects, what can you use? But good suggestion: I've changed the link so it now points to the MySpace page where people can actually listen to a tune or two.
Specific information on how to order (and/or download) the CD will be forthcoming in a separate post. Alison: your suggestion very much noted.
Bostonite? Well, there are a lot of Bizarros on the Blue Line ...
I'm sure you're aware you got boing-boinged again - that ought to bring them in!
Hokey smokes, the party's been posted to BoingBoing. I'll be coming down from chorus rehearsal, so I'll not be there until a song or three into the set--hope I'll be able to get in the doors...
you did get boing boinged. if you had a sample up of yer music, i;d consider stopping by.
Two Whisperado tracks can in fact be downloaded, restriction-free, via Alison Scott's fine Page Full of Free Music She Likes.
Wish I could be in NYC for the show. Will you perchance have some copies of the cd with you at Boskone for those of us in the hinterlands?
Thanks for posting notice of the show a few days in advance. I remember with fondness the times when I could read about some event taking place in a few hours and decide, "yeah, I'll go do that tonight". But that phase of my life is long behind me.
Live Music! Yes, an excellent entertainment value, and, happily, capable of redeeming even a day oversupplied with stressed out coworkers and recalcitrant computers. It was great fun --thanks, Whisperado!
After just one show, I am cured of the heartbreak of psoriasis! Plus I got to hear some cool music for cheap. Thanks, Whisperado!
Ugh. Make it go away, please.
