Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Welf II (son of Rudolf II and Ita von Öhningen); died on 10 Mar 1030.

    Notes:

Count of Altdorf and Swabia. "Rudolf's son Welf II (d. 1030) built the castle of Ravensburg above Altdorf and married Imiza of Luxembourg, a niece of Emperor Henry II's wife, Kunigunde." [Frederick Barbarossa: The Prince and the Myth, citation details below.]

    From Wikipedia:

Welf opposed the election of the Salian count Conrad II as King of the Romans in 1024 because it did not suit his interests, but he had to eventually relent. The next year he joined a rebellion launched by the Babenberg duke Ernest II of Swabia, but finally submitted in 1027.

In the 1020s, Welf feuded with the Augsburg and Freising bishops; he pillaged the treasury of Bishop Bruno of Augsburg, and sacked the city of Augsburg.

Welf married Imiza of Luxembourg about 1017. Imiza (daughter of Frederick I of Luxembourg and (Unknown daughter of Heribert I)) was born about 1000; died after 2 Aug 1055. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The family was known in the twelfth century, accordingly, as the Altdorfer rather than as the Welfs." [Frederick Barbarossa: The Prince and the Myth, citation details below.]
