Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Thomas Wetmore was born in 1615; died on 11 Dec 1681 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

    Notes:

Said to have emigrated to Hartford from the west of England in 1635. He was an early settler of Wethersfield, Connecticut, where he is recorded as owning land in 1640. He was later among the first six settlers in Middletown in 1652, and was several times a deputy from that place to the Connecticut general court.

His surname was variously spelled Wetmore, Whetmore, Whitmore, Whittmore, Whightmore, Whiytmore, and Wetmer. It has been supposed on the basis of various associations that he was a son of the John Whitmore of Wethersfield and later Stamford, who was killed by a native American in 1648, but this is unproved.

Thomas married Sarah Hall on 11 Dec 1645 in Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. Sarah (daughter of John Hall) died on 7 Dec 1664 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  3. 10.  Nathaniel Bacon was born before 1630 in England; died on 27 Jan 1706 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

    Notes:

He was not, as reported in some sources, a son or grandson of William Bacon of Stretton in Rutland county, England. He was, according to Donald Lines Jacobus (citation details below), a "nephew of Andrew Bacon, an original proprietor of Hartford, who married Elizabeth, widow of Timothy Stanley, and in 1660 moved to Hadley, Mass., where he died without issue, 4 Oct. 1669."

Nathaniel married Anna Miller about 1652. Anna (daughter of Thomas Miller and Isabel) was born about 1635; died on 6 Jul 1680 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 11.  Anna Miller was born about 1635 (daughter of Thomas Miller and Isabel); died on 6 Jul 1680 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

Generation: 5

  1. 18.  John Hall was born about 1584; died on 26 May 1673 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

    Notes:

Much contradictory material has been published about the John Hall who was the father of Sarah, wife of Thomas Wetmore. To our knowledge the best overview, sorting through various misconceptions, is the treatment of him in Moore and Allied Families (citation details below).

It is frequently claimed that his will of May 1673 said that he had been in New England for forty years, but no such statement actually appears in his will. He does describe himself as about 89 years old, thus 1584 serves as an approximate year of his birth. There is no evidence that he was, as claimed by Savage, the John Hall who was a freeman of the Bay Colony on 6 May 1635. Our John Hall definitely does appear in Hartford around 1639/40, at which time another, younger John Hall was already established there; subsequent records refer to our John Hall as "Sr." His wife is frequently given as Ann, daughter of John Wilcox/Willcocke, but it is probable that, as argued by William Henry Whitmore in the NEHGR, the younger John Hall, not our John Hall, was this Ann's husband. At any rate, this Ann, born around 1617, could not have been the mother of our John Hall's children, who were born between approximately 1619 and 1626. It is said, without proof, that our John Hall's wife was an Esther who died before he left England.

    Children:
    1. 9. Sarah Hall died on 7 Dec 1664 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.

  2. 22.  Thomas Miller was born about 1610; died between 11 Aug 1680 and 10 Sep 1680.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Alternate death: 14 Aug 1680, Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut

    Notes:

He was not a son of John and Mary (Pilston) Miller who married 21 Nov 1585 at Bishops Stortford.

Thomas married Isabel about 1633. Isabel died before 9 May 1666 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  3. 23.  Isabel died before 9 May 1666 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.
    Children:
    1. 11. Anna Miller was born about 1635; died on 6 Jul 1680 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut.
