    He was described as "miles", indicating knighthood, in 1345. It is probable that most of these manorial de Gresbrokes were knights, unless they paid the fines necessary to avoid the obligation.

    Notes:

    He left his paternal estates in Yorkshire and settled in Shenston, Staffordshire. Between about 1204 and 1214 he acquired from Robert de Grendon the old manor house of the De Brays, afterwards called Gresbrok Hall, and an estate in Shenston. Shenston had been held by the De Brays since before 1127, and Bartholomew inherited a number of feudal obligations upon acquiring an estate there.
