John Benson's will left "five pounds to my daughter Hall" and mentioned a "house lot which I have already verbally given to my son Hall." This does not absolutely prove that Richard Hall's wife Martha was the Martha known to have been born to John Benson and Mary Williams, but given the geographical continuity of all parties, it seems to make it very likely.

He and his family emigrated on the Confidence in 1638. First at Hingham, then Hull. He may have been from Shiplake, Oxfordshire, a grandson of Thomas Benson who died in Caversham in 1614, and Thomas Benson's wife Maud Warner.

She may have been the Mary Williams who was baptised at Caversham, Oxfordshire on 12 Oct 1606, a daughter of Robert Williams and Agnes Atkins.
