Thankful married William Sweet in Mar 1707 in Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island. William (son of Richard Sweet and Priscilla Carpenter) died after 15 Feb 1737 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island. 2. William Hamilton was born in Mar 1647 in Glasgow, Scotland (son of Gallatin Hamilton); died in 1749 in Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut. Notes:
Said to have come from Scotland in 1668.
According to legend (which may be true in part, or in all), he was the first man to kill a whale off the coast of Cape Cod, for which he was persecuted by people who believed he could only have accomplished such a thing with the aid of evil spirits, resulting in his subsequent emigration to Danbury, Connecticut.William married Mercy Berry about 1682 in North Kingstown, Washington, Rhode Island. Wikitree identifies her as the Mary Beere who was born at Newport, Rhode Island 6 Aug 1666 to John and Patience Beere, pointing to her listing in Torrey's New England Marriages that gives her birth date as "ca 1668/75?". But both The History and Genealogy of the Cornish Families and the distinguished Settlers of the Beekman Patent (citation details for both below) say she came from England.Children:
