Notes - He was almost certainly from Ware in Hertfordshire. He emigrated to New England in 1630, on the Arbella, part of the Winthrop Fleet.
From The Winthrop Fleet by Robert Charles Anderson (citation details below):
John Johnson was a forerunner of the Nazeing company of emigrants led by the Rev. John Eliot, and the only known member of that company to arrive in 1630.
John Johnson was the confidant of powerful men, filled an important position in the affairs of the early colony and in the development of its defenses, and was involved as an overseer, attorney, witness and appraiser in the affairs of many of his neighbors. He owned a considerable estate at his death. Yet with all these advantages, he kept a low profile in his personal life and never achieved a consistent rank of "Mr."
