- Also called Peter Stradelinges, de Estratlinges. "Peter Stradelinges [Stradling] laid the foundations of the family fortunes by marrying Joan, daughter and heir of Thomas de Halweia of St Donats, Glamorgan, Combe Hay, Somerset, and Compton Hawey, Dorset. Peter became custodian of Neath Castle (1296–7), joined the English expedition to Flanders in 1297, and, when Otto de Grandson visited Rome, Peter was nominated his lieutenant in Ireland (1298). Such royal and seigneurial service, together with shrewd marriages, turned the descendants of these Savoyard immigrants into English gentry." [Oxford Dictionary of National Biography]
