  He was probably not, as long asserted, the Thomas Drake who was born in Colyton, Devon on 1635 to William and Margaret (Westover) Drake. He was, a brother of Elizabeth Drake who married Ezekiel Hamlin of Boston, but the identity of their parents is unknown.
